Facts:Trakehner is a light warmblood breed of horse, originally developed at the East Prussian state stud farm in the town of Trakehnen from which the breed takes its name.
It is known for its "floating trot" - full of impulsion and suspension.
In October 1944 the decision was made to evacuate the main stud Trakehnen, they loaded a total of 800 horses- the best mares, stallions and young colts onto trains and relocated to the West unfortunately most of these horses were lost due to fighting.
Super Fact:During the world wars the Trakehner breed suffered greatly with half the population lost in WWI and breeders just managing to get back to their former glory days before being decimated in WWII.
